Trusting strangers

Roald Dahl short story The Land Lady is about a business man named Billy who traveled  for work  to a city named Bath. When he arrived to a city billy ask another traveler for a residence to stay a few nights and also he asked for the cheapest one. The traveler told him about the Belling Dragons, on his way to the Belling Dragons Billy saw another hotel named Bed and Breakfast, he press the doorbell and before you count one second the door open it was a middle aged lady. she treated him very good and at some point Billy felt strange, this land lady told him to sign in the guest book when he open he saw two names that where very familiar for Billy but he wasn't really sure. The man and the landlady started talking drinking a cup of tea about this two man but when the landlady gave a comment she was using past tense. In this house or hotel there where animals that at first Billy thought they were real until he examine, the animal were preserved, also the land lady tells Billy that those to mans were in the hotel at the same time as billy. at the end of the story Billy tells that the tea was testing  very rare. The author of the story ended like that because it might be of suspense or to make the reader create the end.

reading this short story I realized that there where a lot of thought for example:

"Normally you ring the bell and you have at least a half-minute’s wait before the door opens. But this dame was like a jack-in-the-box. He pressed the bell and out she popped! It made him jump."

Roald Dahl made me thought a lot about that the land lady might be desperate for someone to come into her hotel, also made me think that it might be scared that someone could made does things and explaining Jack-in-a-box made me feel scared. In this short story imagery is difficult to find but when you find it explains everything and you can visualize very clearly for example:

" She seemed terribly nice. She looked exactly like the mother of one's best school friend welcoming one into the house to stay for the Christmas holidays."

Imagery is showing me that this woman seems like a grandma because it says that she si welcoming one into the house to stay for the Christmas holidays, and makes me imagine my grandma in Christmas and the holidays.

What I really think about this short story is that people must won your trust. The Land Lady is an old lady that is very strange because of all the things she had done in the story. This story message is to not trust in stranger because you really don't know how can they be a cruel or a good person.

The Truth

Here is Jonas and The Giver talking about the memories,
also  planing what they are going to do.
The final chapters i had read in The Giver, at this point had been the most shocking, in the book many things had happened in Jonas life and also the Giver's life. Jonas had been feeling a lot and in this time when people in this community where playing the war game, Jonas had felt pain because he recalled the memory of warfare. The most shocking part it was the story about Rosemary and what had happened to her when she was being the receiver 10 years ago. Jonas start to ask questions about released until The  Giver show him what is released and what happens to it. The Giver and Jonas start to think of a plan to get away from this terror of comunity and finally they got a great plan but just Jonas could escape.

The part that interested me was when Jonas's father was in the nurture center in the ceremony of the baby twins and one gets released, that was the part in which the giver showed him what really is released in this community. "He killed it! My father killed it! Jonas said to himself, stunned at what he was realizing. he continued to stare at the screen numbly" (pg: 150). I found that this is pain what Jonas is feeling for the released baby. When i was reading it i think that father was a cruel man but he really didn't know what he has doing he think its okay to released someone a life. In my point of view this shows me that memories are a very strong figure in our daily lives and will stay forever, and without memories you really don't know what you are really doing if it right o wrong.

This is Jonas going out of the community and
The giver saying goodbye
What i had seen in this book during reading is that the book really gets into you and make you feel if you where literally in the book. I really liked it because each time is getting interested in what Jonas is finding about this strange community and how he could scape and planned everything with The Giver. In conclusion I predict that Jonas will scape and find the real world and start live in there.

Feelings

In the few chapters we had read in The Giver feelings are starting to grow from Jonas, and pain is invading also to him throught passing the memories pain had touch very harmfully Jonas. Colors are now seeing ordinary to Jonas in life. Gabriel is having bad nights with Jonas's parents so he tried to take care Gabriel and in secret he is transmitting memories so Baby Gabe can sleep well. Pain had really continued and now as chapter 14 is daily. With so much pain Jonas had The Giver also gave him new memories of things and Jonas started to have real feelings on of them is Love, a memory that Jonas got is of Christmas and got to know the feeling of holidays. Finally Jonas had experience a lot of knew thing In this time.

The chapter 16 had been one of my favorites because it showing me and makes me understand more about the pain and feelings Jonas is going though, " I certanly like the memory, thought. I can see why it's your favorite. I couldn't quite get the world for the whole feeling of it, the feeling that was so strong in the room." What I understand in this quote Jonas is having so much feelings that he really doesn't know how to describe them all in one. But keeping it reading The Giver had experience that too and it's Love. What makes me think is that people without feeling love it's strange and its a feelings very strong that even I think in this community there's love. The memory that The Giver had given to Jonas that is Christmas is showing the love in a family and the holidays on what we do.here is a song from the beatles

Finally I can't wait to finish and know more about the book and the memories that Jonas had received, it's getting more interesting and now we are getting to know how is the community. I predict that Jonas with more knowledge of memories he could know what the elders are really hiding from the community and what is outside from theirs.

The Reciever of Memory

In the final chapter me and my classmates had read in The Giver in my opinion its getting more interesting and makes me wonder a lot of things and more in this chapters. Even thought in this chapters Jonas is starting to get know more about his job ( The Receiver of Memories), he had read the rules of his work and he got a little scared and in my point of view he also is even more thoughtful of a rule to not lie! When Jonas finally get into his job he met The Giver. This man is helping Jonas get memories of The Giver back such as snow and Jonas is starting to see colors now, he is very excited of those feeling of cold and see color for his first times. Talking to this man Jonas was very pensive of the pain that this Elder told him, I think by searching more memories Jonas will started feel pain. To get to the final point Jonas is amazed of his effort and work he had done being the receiver, i want to get know more about what is happening in those memories that The Giver had gave to him.

Here is Jonas thoughtful about the new memories he might got
Reading chapters nine threw twelve its pretty  interesting what is happening and how its explaining the way that Jonas can see beyond. But reading chapter eleven i see a quote that also makes me feel this way "there was a question bothering Jonas. Sir, he said, The chief Elder told me - she told everyone - and you told me,too, that it will be painful. So i was a little scared. But it didn't hurt at all. I really enjoy it. He look quizzically at the old man" ( Lowry 83). Reading this quote i also feel a little scared about what can be painful of this work receiving memories back from the past, but it seems that this few memories Jonas had gotten he had excitement and wanted more. I wonder does memories will hurt the way of life of Jonas? or do he will find a memories painful? This questions makes me think a different way or perspective of memories. I think that pain is something that you had feel in a certain way that can hurt you a lot depending on who you are, also i think that pain is a hurtful feeling of something.

In my final thought of the previous chapters we got to read were the most excited chapters i had ever read in this book because finally we get to know The Giver. Thinking of putting on the position of Jonas in those situation of the memories back, the snow, sunshine, colors makes me wonder that does blind person would feel the same because they can't see anything. It might be that they feel amazing and happy about a new feeling they are experiencing in my opinion blind people must feel like that. The Giver has a lot of honor to know about all those memories had gotten and how would it feels to have such and honor to be The Reciever both have a lot of honor there. In conclusion  i got a prediction that i think that Jonas will start too see all colors and will try to explain to others but none of them will belief him.

The Ceremony

In the lastly chapters we had read of The Giver, Jonas is explainin all the ceremony of each number because in that day all ceremony of each numbers where starting. Jonas at first had a dream and need to took pills so he can forget about it, mom say that its because you enter to puberty and everyone in the community pass through that. When the ceremony get starded the elevens where the most exited because they will turned into twelves and know their future assuagement job that the elder and government had given to them. Including this, when the ceremony of 12 was started Jonas was very nervous about it, in Jonas turn the elder skipped his number and nobody new why. finnally Jonas was selected not assign for a job because he can see beyond than others. I think that The Giver is still very interesting and every time we read it its getting deeper and we know more about this strange community.

In the chapters we had read i can feel that Jonas is different from others and what I understand is that in every point of view of him he seems different from other, like the elder says. In the last week that I had read chapters 5 through 8 is going me previous knowledge and more things about Jonas society and mostly the ceremony of this strange community Jonas had live in. Its getting me even more interesting this book about the ceremony of 12 and whats happening with Jonas like the elder said, "You members of the community will not understand it, either. Perhaps Jonas will, because the current Receiver has told us that Jonas already has this quality. He calls it the Capacity to see Beyond" (Lowry 63). In my opinion what i feel in this quote is that the elder and Jonas are very confused about that and also I think that the other people are too about it, and it might have that feeling Jonas of concerned about that selection of being a Receiver. In conclusion my way of thinking in this previous chapters I had read this last week it seems to me that the government in the book has a lot of secrets that are hiding to the community in which Jonas might with his way to see beyond have a solution to all of this problems the government is fighting for.
Lastly in the chapters I had read I'm still questioning about what is happening to this community and why does Jonas had been selected. I predict that in the book Jonas and this Receiver will find a clue about the community and maybe the answer about all because seems Jonas is smarter that usual it might be that he can solve it all. Also it might be that they have fear to Jonas about being smarter and see very differently than others. Still in my opinion this book is great because I feel that this book is very confused. Finally  The Giver is a book in which shows us about future and make us imagine what will we do if we were there.

The Strict Community

Previously in the book The Giver, Jonas is an eleven and he is almost having the ceremony of tweleve in which his future will be destinated. The ceremony of twelve is a celebration in which you find out your future work from you entire life. Jonas is living in a strict and perfectionist community that everything you do there depends on your future, and the laws in there are very strict. Living in this perfect community also you must be perfect as a person following the rules you have because you can me released from the community. In this community before you have the ceremony of twelve you also need to make volunteer hours, help people. finnally in this previous chapters are introducing us what is like this community.

In The Giver theres everything under control and in this quote "Almost every citizen in the community had dark eyes. his parents did, lily did, and so all did his groups members and friends." I feel like in this quote that everyone is having dark eyes except for Jonas and Gabriel it might be that both have their birth mother. I think that seems everyone is the same thats what Jonas is so scared of why he isn't the same as his family, it might be because of his birth mother that got lighter eyes. In my opinion Jonas is trying to say like docent is different to have lighter eyes that the other ones? or does Gabriel have my same birth mother? Jonas might be questioning. To conclude in my point of view is that Jonas is having a kind of inside trouble and also it might be that his feeling very different from others and not as perfect and same as others.

Lastly in this previous chapters we had read I'm questioning a lot, its very interesting this book and i am very interested in the reading. In what Jonas is going though i wanna know what will happened in the future and also whats really going on in this community of perfection. The quote i explain is given me extremely nervous of Jonas life, i think he is a curious kid that always looks for answers. i consider that if i were Jonas i will try to find who was his birth mom of that kid and mine also. in conclusion the book its very fun reading it and i am liking a lot of it.

Predictions of The Giver

  1. Short summary of what you think this book will be about. How would you describe it after having "interviewed" the book?
I think this book is about a man that knew that the government is hiding something and he wants to find it. the Giver cover page is a old man so i also think that this old man might be a man that help this man that (principal) to his journey of search for answers. After i saw the interviewed  of the book i also predict that the Giver is like the Hunger Games or Divergent. The Giver might be about also that the government is having a sort of problem but that are hiding and people don't know about that. In conclusion  this book seems very interesting to me because i love Dystopia  genre of books.
2.  Read the dedication page where Lowry says, "For all the children to whom we entrust the       future." What do you think Lowry means by this statement? Explain your thinking with a minimum of 3 sentences.

this statement says that it might happened this problem in the future and we (the kids) can fight for it. Also it might be that in the future children of my age might pass in the same issue that jonas is having. finally it also states that children can make a revolution.

3. Make a prediction about what you think will happen in this book?

I predict that it will happened that this Jonas is going somewhere that all of his age kids must do and he didn't want it and he knows that is a issue and they try to think (the government) that their life is perfect, but Jonas knew that the government got a secret behind all this.

4. Include a multi-media image that relates to something you talked about in your post.
